The Security Officer of Overbrook School for the Blind exudes a passion for the school, its students, and its employees. This position will report directly to the Security Supervisor.

 

The Mission of Overbrook School for the Blind (OSB) is to develop and deliver education that enhances the options available for persons with visual impairments, including those with additional challenges so that they have the greatest opportunity to experience active and fulfilling lives.

Organizational Description: Overbrook School for the Blind serves students who are blind or visually impaired with or without additional disabilities (such as intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, hearing impairment, sensory issues, and including those who require specialized medical care) receive a customized, individualized education based on state educational standards. OSB is more than a school, it is a community where students, families, and staff support one another and come together to build a bright future. 

Job Functions: This position provides assurance and access to 24/7 monitoring surveillance equipment and patrolling the school's property to protect the entire campus, students, staff, guests, and visitors. Daily foot patrols permit the securing of all vital access points and the inspection of all buildings. Operational knowledge of the Identification process to permit parents, visitors, and guest entry on campus. A high level of alertness and professionalism is required to ensure safety at all times, especially during emergency situations. Provide leadership and guidance while maintaining confidentiality on a daily basis.

  • Patrols the campus and surrounding areas via school vehicle, golf cart and/or foot patrol.
  • Completes and updates Security Patrol Logs daily by recording observations, information, occurrences and surveillance activities.
  • Inspect I.D.’s at the Main Entrance; Remind staff to wear their I.D.’s and check in all visitors and guests.
  • Reports security breaches, incidents, and other alarming behavior.
  • Assists with the administrations and the operations of the Security Department, while adhering to the policies and procedures of Overbrook School for the Blind
  • Monitors and operates CCTV Systems, Mobile Radios, Intercom, Blue Call Boxes, and Fire/Burglar Alarms.
  • Respond to campus emergency situations and follow the school’s protocol in a professional manner.
  • Able to work under pressure independently and/or in a group setting.
  • Provides transportation for students, staff, and guests as needed, under the direct instructions of the Security Supervisor; Must clean and gas school vehicles before and after use.
  • Ensures all equipment is operational; informs the Security Supervisor when equipment malfunctions.
  • Directs campus traffic, parking, school bus drop-offs, and pick-ups.
  • Assists with snow/debris removal.
  • Performs other duties as directed by the Security Supervisor.

Minimum Education and Experience Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1- 3 years of experience with Security, Law Enforcement, or a Military Background.
  • 235 Certification preferred.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license (CDL preferred).
  • Must have basic computer skills plus experience with Closed Circuit TV Systems.
  • Must be professional and stay alert at all times
  • Demonstrates good judgment and schedule dependability.
  • Maintain certification in CPR/AED and First Aid.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

  • Lifting: must be able to lift 50-lbs minimum. Participate in 2 person lifts. 
  • Working Environment: Employees are subject to accidents and/or injuries, which may be incurred during the performance of the essential functions of the position. Work is primarily indoors but some outdoor activities may be required.
